Its cricket time in Chennai, and I'm off to watching the five day test match beginning tomorrow. People would render me crazy to be watching five days of test match cricket, but then I least bother. Rakesh, Baby and I are all geared up to make full use of our 700 rupee tickets, with banners reading messages to the players, and shouting our voices for the Indian team. There is one nemesis though. The rain. The rains have proved very good to the city of late, but it is hoped that it doesn't rain in the next five days. The rain which has not come into effect for a couple of weeks need not for god's sake come back to plague the test match. Cricket matches in Chennai have for a long time now been victims of the rain. One day matches versus South Africa and New Zealand have been washed out, and test matches versus South Africa, Australia and Sri Lanka have been plagued in the past too. So the rain has been some kind of a problem in Chennai cricket matches. But the IPL has started getting people back into the stadium. So now there is almost a full crowd expected in the stadium.
I'm sure it'll be a lot of fun. Its definitely a lot more fun watching a cricket match in a stadium than at home. Though the viewability is better at home, nothing like that atmosphere. Morever, the IPL just rocked. It was an experience where the crowd booed Sehwag and Gambhir, and cheered Hayden and Hussey. The only non Chennai player who was cheered was Sachin. That is Chennai cricketing culture for you. So, let's hope it's going great tomorrow onwards.
Ever yours,
Without wax,
Vignesh/Chappli.
