Now, begins, the real grim part of an IITM student's life. The period between Saarang and the college elections in the second sem, has got to be the most dry period of our lives. College obviously does have fun surprises thrown in here and there in the form of birthdays, and treats, and movies and so on, but then the outer picture is really serious and gray! Saarang was a lot of fun of course, though at times, this year, it seemed to get slightly boring. The NewsLetter was way off the mark, and if the last day's issue hadn't been as hilarious as it turned out to be, it'd have been branded a failure this year. The events were fun as usual. The quizzes seemed to be more audience friendly this time, while events like cluedo were a lot of fun, with the innate takes on so many junta. Starting by taking a dig at themselves, the cluedo coords went on to take a dig at everyone around, and went on till Savita.B. Man, a question paper had seldom been that hilarious. The pro-shows were as good as ever. Classical Night was good, but one could not help feeling that Dr.BMK was at his younger best. It was hard to see the maestro struggle to reach frequencies, and the stand in doing in his best to spoil the concert with the terrible voice he had. It was harder, to see the crowd booing a master of his stature. It was sad to see IITM responding so badly to a great! Bloody give classical music its share of space, atleast on Classical Night! The second 'item' of the night, Isha Sharvani, was treated to whistles and hoots from the crowd, not a surprise considering the body tight clothing, or 'wierd' positions they were dancing in.
The next day had Kamal Hasan inaugurating Events@Saarang. The lecture was scheduled at 9, and at 7.50, the queue was standing to the road. That was when yours truly used Tam fundaes, used influence from a few certain Security vols, and got into IC & SR. Kamal came, and started mouthing dialogues right out of a certain Vijay movie about how he spoke from his heart and not the mind. Then certain other movie dialogues about how he had nothing to speak, and how he "admired the IIT'ians, and how IIT rocks, and how he never got to study here and how JEE was tough and what not!" Man, we are bored of this same shit again and again! And yea, please resort to using IITM, plain IIT has gotten too boring, and has also lost its value pretty much. Ironically, but yeah, truly, Gautham Menon spoke more sensibly about what he was called for. About a certain aspect of filmmaking and the so. He of course did a lot of publicity for Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya, but the crowd didn't mind, after all junta started hooting about Hosana and Omana Penne. The remaining events for the day were pretty ordinary. But at the end of the day was Choreo Night, and man, it was a breathtaking sight. Firstly, for the sore eyes of IITM, it was a feast. Secondly, certain dance sequences were simply breathtaking.NIT Trichy were disappointing, given their performance last year. As for Loyola, they slightly were the same, as with their smoke dance, but then they were still too good. IITM was good, but the lack of professionalism as compared to the more 'tight' teams showed.
Following this was the beginning of the more fun days. Paintball was super. I'll soon post some paintball pics on FaceBook. WM was good, and we saw Glucon beating the other contestants by a mile, as he eased to the victory post, though his performance wasn't as cool as in LitSoc. Decibels finals was bad. But, Tarang made up. With Sinx, which was actually Kashyap's team, which I did not realise till the show was over, and Maya, performing really well. Again our own IITM team, was low on the tightness factor, due to the obvious reasons. You don't win events of this magnitude with a fortnight of playing together, especially when your competitors have been playing together for years. Then came Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy. Man, weren't they awesome! Every bit worth it to miss Evam's Five Point Someone. Shankar kept the crowd in it, with his every little bit to feed the IITM crowd with fodder paying off. If his "Kanchipuram Saree Pehenne wali, IIT me Computer Science Padne wali Pretty Woman" was sprinkled with loads of contradiction, the usual speech about how he "admired the IIT'ians, and how IIT rocks, and how he never got to study here and how JEE was tough and what not!" put us off. But then the songs were too cool, the audience in full groove mode, and the atmosphere was way too super. Atleast the rain threats didn't pay off. Finally, the last day of Saarang came about. And man, no one on the roads. It looked like any normal working day in insti. But then, by the time JAM came about, the crowds were back. Short Film Making films screened were quite impressive, but for the certain repetitive themes of love failure, drug addiction, and fallouts in friendship getting irritating. But then, the day ended with the Rock Show. Something I hadn't experienced so far, the rock show was a lot of head banging. We got on defining Bhajana Sampradayams for rock music, like the constant yeahs for everything, and the head banging being the methodology to acknowledge beats and so on. But the best part was lifting people up, and then putting them down, the train runs, the step dances, the leg banging, and so on. Jaichu and I were literally on fire, and this coming from two unexpected junta had the others laughing at us. It was definitely a lot of fun. And of course I forgot the Baba symbol. The Baba Symbol, i.e. \|_ _|, is the god behind the entire religion of rock music. The lead singer asks the crowd, "How many motherfuckers are here?" and the entire crowd goes "Yeah" with their Baba's going up. A pity Prasad wasn't around to say Destroy time different mind. :P The irony of the evening was Hurricane Bells starting the show with, "It's been a long, long year, It's difficult to remember, it's been a long long year, but it's getting better" at around 7.45 in the evening. That was Saarang for 2010. A lot of fun definitely, but I'll be waiting for next Saarang. Till then, it's back to acads. Heaven is no more waiting!!
