Villu - BOW To The Best..

I've never seen a movie of this magnitude more than once in my entire life, but this movie deserved it, every bit of it, or so I thought when I sat to watch it for a second time. Prabhudeva, who has treated us in the visuals of many scintillating numbers, made the movie literally dance through the sequences - Dappankuthu only!!

Villu is EKS from the word Go! We have Acham enbadhu madamaiyada, literally translating to Fear is foolishness, giving us an insight into what fear is following in the reels coming up. It starts off with a Pugazh(not the verb meaning fame, but the noun which gives name to Vijay), draped from face to foot in coloured sarees, when he ought to be saving a girl from (d)rape. Then there goes the background score, with the most meaningful lyrics I've ever heard, "Everybody, everybody, rock your body, Pathukko da, Villu oru KD". And then, mouthing some of the best punch dialogues of all time, pipping Godfather's "I'll make him an offer he can't refuse". It goes like this, Mr.Bad Guy asks Villu, "Are you Bruce Lee, or Jet Lee? (he thankfully forgets Chappli :P), and gets a reply saying, "Ghilli da.". This is sure to go down in the annals of Tamil cinema history as the best piece of dialogue delivery in all time. God save the viewers!!

Then goes operation Raka, where Ilaya Thalapathy flies from a container, in a water jet, right into the sea, and then dodges the bottom wheels of the ships, by going right under it!! Then operation Jahnu!! Here comes Vadivelu, in one of the worsshht roles he's ever taken up. The scene of his introduction has his hair going up like a pyramid, never to return down for the rest of the movie. Then, there is the great Nayan, who with Vijay, does one of the grossest, crassest remakes of the evergreen MGR - Saroja Devi scene from Anbe Vaa. Then begins the fight of the one-man army, who has his takes on Valamburi John, talking about spinach on TV, and then also CNN IBN reporters go for a six. The best part is when the Ilaya Thalapathy, comes in a Nadal-ish Wimbledon victor jacket, which might give the original Nadal a run for his money. Follows the appapappapappappappappapa scene, which is probably the only decent comedy scene in the entire movie, though it might be flaked by Tamil movie audience for times to come, for showing the herione having kalla sarakku!! Sadly, the only decent level scene in entire Villu was shown the door due to this!!

Then comes a dozen scenes which we have missed due to irresistible dozing off. And then enters, another stalwart in a wasted role, Prakash Raj, as the most foolish don ever known, JD. Don Vito Corleone and entire Sicily would be ashamed to call him Don!! To add to the misery, his co-dons are even more foolish, making him a ten pointer on the relative scale. There is one scene where he asks Vijay for his credentials, and gets a reply saying, 'MTech IIT Kharagpur, MBA Oxford', at which point my heart stopped beating, only to be reassured with a 'Naa oru mullamaari, nee oru mudinchuvakki, namakku enna thaguthi vendirukku'. Follows, a couple of 'betrayals', double crossings, triple crossings, locks in the glasses, codes entered by just looking at glass windows, and we are taken into a virtual world of technology. Vijay flies on the wings of a Boeing 747, and then takes a parachute to land on bikini-clad Nayanthara's boat to sing Jalsa, a gult ripoff!! Then, he does the impossible! Have a button for 6 bombs in his coolers, which is followed by Dheemthanakka, another gult rip-off!! Situation song indeed, considering the quality of stuff we are treated to!! Then comes in the true Ilaya Thalapathi alias Young Commander, Major Saravanan, Pugazh's dad, Vijay in a hugely different get up!! His moustache is around 2 inches longer than Pugazh's and he is sooo different from the son of his we have got to know. Enna Koduma Saravanan indeed!! He is killed, by Prakash Raj and company, and sets us up for an interesting climax. Prabhu Deva has to be the king of screenplay, definitely, how so unpredictable!! Enters Ranjitha, some redsands, and loads and loads of crying, and you are witness to 13 minutes of golden Tamil cinema!! And in the end as usual, logic plays a very weak part, as superstition takes over. Eventually, all's well that ends well, as we are safely out of the movie, unexpectedly!! Prabhu Deva has checkpoints through out the movie, right from the Raka scene, to the Vadivelu fight with the animated cow, to the cooler blast, to kill us, and he makes sure that one who does not die anyone here has a horror experience in the climax! And to think that the very same team, minus Nayan ofc, made Pokkiri!! Pretty sure Prabhudeva and Nayan were romancing on sets, and its not an understatement to say that the movie was a disaster!!

Out of the movie, it feels like experienced death once, and out of the world experience. If Vijay continues making movies like this, even god can't save him.
To quote Dr.Vijay from Pokkiri, "Naa oru mudivu pannenna, en pecha naane kekka matten", looks like 'mudivu' is strong to take the exponential decay, and if he has made the decision, nobody can stop him!! If Vettaikaran takes this path, his fans will go on a leather hunt, definitely!!!
